MEMRI² is easy to install,
assuming that you prepare properly for the installation. The first section of
the Installation Guide deals with what you need to know about your systems in
order to make sure: (1) that your systems meet the requirements for running
MEMRI²; and (2) if you are using a previous version of MEMRI, that you
understand your existing configuration. For your convenience, we have attached
a “MEMRI² Installation Worksheet”, on which you can record information about
your configuration to be used during the installation process.
If you are performing a fresh
installation of MEMRI² (i.e.: at a site that has never previously had any
version of MEMRI), you should be
in touch with MRI Client Service so that we can help you install your sentinel
and customize your installation. If you are not in touch with us, then we can
be reached as follows:

Naturally, we are also available
in case you run into problems during the installation process, or have any
questions about how our program and data should be configured. However, if you are upgrading from a previous
version of MEMRI², it may not be necessary for you to contact us. Instead, you
should continue to the next section “MEMRI² Hardware and Operating System
Requirements.
Before you install MEMRI², you
should make sure that each PC on which you are planning to install the system
meets our requirements. The minimum workstation hardware requirements for
running MEMRI² are as follows:
166 MHz Pentium PC or compatible
32 Megabytes RAM
20 Megabytes free hard drive space
4X CD-ROM drive*
Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 5 or
later), Windows 2000, Windows 95 (B) or Windows 98
although we recommend the
following for robust functionality and performance:
500 MHz Pentium III PC or
compatible
128 Megabytes RAM
20 Megabytes free hard drive
space
8X CD-ROM (or faster)*
*CD-ROM drives are not necessary for networked workstations
if the data is available on the network.
Windows 2000
High-speed LAN Internet
connection
Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher
There is no one way to figure out
what your hardware configuration is… if you’re not familiar with your PC’s
configuration, you should probably consult with a systems specialist to
determine whether or not your computer meets our hardware requirements. If your
system was purchased in the last two years, you almost certainly make the
grade.
As the specifications indicate,
MEMRI² was written for Windows. More specifically, it was written for
32-bit-compliant versions of Windows, a group that includes Windows 95, Windows
98, Windows NT and Windows 2000. These four operating systems are distinct
enough that, in order to perform the installation, you need to know which operating
system you are running. To determine the version of Windows:
MEMRI² contains an optional
Internet component that informs users of data releases and program upgrades.
This feature was written “on top of” Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, which
means that it is important that you are able to answer the following questions
during the installation process:
Does the computer have Internet
Explorer 4.0 or later? Do
you see an icon on the desktop called “Internet Explorer” (see right)? If you
don’t see the icon, then you can skip this section entirely – make a note of
the fact that you do not have Internet Explorer 4.0 and proceed directly to
“How to Distinguish a Standalone Site from a Network Site.” If you do see the
icon, double-click on it. When Internet Explorer is open, choose “About
Internet Explorer” from the “Help” menu. This will tell you what version of
Internet Explorer you are using. The existence or absence of Netscape is
irrelevant. Write down the IE version number – you’ll need it later.
Does the computer connect to the
Internet through a Local Area Network, or does it use a modem? To find this out, click on the
“Start” button in the lower left-hand corner of the screen and choose
“Settings/Control Panel” from the menu that appears. When the control panel
appears, double-click on the “Internet” icon and click once on the “Connection”
tab. In the “Connection” section, there should be a choice between “connect to
the Internet using a modem” and “connect to the Internet using a local area
network”. Write down which one applies to you. <this may be different for IE
5.0>
MEMRI² can be installed in two ways. It can be installed as a shared resource on a LAN, or as a Stand Alone. The type of install that is to be performed is determined by your company’s contract.
This section applies only to
clients who have been using either MEMRI for DOS or a previous version of
MEMRI². If you don’t fit into either category, then you are installing MEMRI
for the first time and should call MRI Client Service at one of the numbers
provided above for help in designing your setup. The rest of you should determine whether or not your installation
is standalone or network. This will be an important factor when you begin the
MEMRI² installation process. As the titles of the sections imply, if you are
currently using MEMRI for DOS, you should follow the directions under “Upgrading
from MEMRI for DOS”, and if you are running a previous version of MEMRI², then
you should follow the directions under “Upgrading from a Previous Version of
MEMRI²”. If you are using both MEMRI for DOS and a previous version of MEMRI²,
then follow the directions under “Upgrading from a Previous Version of MEMRI²”.

Before we get started you need to setup a shared network directory, usually called MRI or MEMRI. Create 3 sub-folders in that directory called Data, Save and Server. The next thing that you need to do is map a drive to the shared network directory. Make sure to note the Drive letter you select cause it needs to be the same for all the workstations that will run MEMRI².
§
To map a network drive, Right Click “My Computer” and
select map network drive.

You can use the browse
button to navigate to the Shared Network Directory then click Finish
Now you are ready to install MEMRI². (Download from: http://support.mriplus.com/download/program/Memri.exe)

The MRI National Studies (Fall, Spring, Doublebase) are available for download from the MEMRI² Support Web Site. Most other studies are available for download, but you will need to call the MRI Client Service hotline at 212-884-9299 to get the download link.
The updates for MEMRI² are performed the same way for stand-alone or network installs. The only difference is that for the Network installs you can only run the updates from the administrative node (Usually the one you initially set MEMRI² up with). However you can make any workstation the Administrative node by following just a few simple steps listed below
You can make as many machines as you want the administrator but only the machine that initially set up the software will be automatically marked an admin. To make another user an administrator and give them permission to run updates and change preferences follow the instructions below:
1. Click StartàRun
3. Follow the left pane to the following folder [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mediamark\Memri2\2.12.0]

1. Open MEMRI² or go to http://www.mediamark.com/memri/memri.htm
2. Click the link corresponding to the study you wish to load.
3. When
the download box appears just choose to run the link from its location

(There is no need to save them to the local hard-drive. Once the update runs it copies the data files to a local or Network directory. Just make sure to only run 1 at a time)
4. If
you are adding a new study you will be prompted to add the new study to your
database list. Click Yes to
install it properly.

5. Once
the update is done you will get the Update Results window. Skim through it and make sure there are no
error messages and then click “OK”

(If you get an error message call 212-884-9299 for the MRI Client Service
Hotline)
6. After the window closes you should exit and then re-launch MEMRI².
7. Click select database study and then check to make sure the study was added to your list. If you were just updating your data, select the study you were updating and then use crosstab or costranker to make sure you have the new data in place.
The last thing we need to do is register the MEMRI² components. There are 2 ways to perform this step.
1. The first and preferred way is to restart the machine with an administrative account after the software install completes, which will register the components automatically.
or
2. The other way requires building and running a custom-built batch file. To do this follow the directions below.
a.
Click StartàProgramsàAccessoriesàNotepad
(or StartàRunàType
Notepadà
and click notepad)
b.
Copy and paste, or type, the following 4 lines
codebook.exe /REGSERVER

regsvr32.exe OLCH3X32.OCX
regsvr32.exe OLCH2X32.OCX
c.
Right-click the Program Icon
and click properties. Copy everything before Memri2fe.exe
and paste it before each of the 4 lines, an example is given below
N:\server\program\codebook.exe /REGSERVER
N:\server\program\regsvr32.exe SPR32X35.OCX
N:\server\program\regsvr32.exe OLCH3X32.OCX
N:\server\program\regsvr32.exe OLCH2X32.OCX
d.
Then click FileàSave As and save it
under the file name register.bat, just make sure that the Files of Type
is set to “All Files”

e.
Then browse to where you saved the Register.bat file and
double click it
